Jonathan de Blok has released the first Nyx SideKick beta which is a software that lets you work with Houdini and 3DS Max in an interconnected way. The current beta only supports 3DS Max 2017 and Houdini 16. The tool is being developed by Jonathan de Blok, Artur Leao and Daniel Santana. A tutorial has also been posted that you can view on Vimeo. More information and the installer can be found on the Facebook page HoudiniForMaxers.
Nice! I was so happy to find that facebook page Houdini for Maxers with already 400 members! And it gave me the idae to creat the Blender fro Maxers Facebook page too: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1593544973996857/
I hope for max 2010 version (if it is possible).
Be sure- Jonathan de Blok as always will make a brilliant tool.
With best regards.
Now we need the same but between Blender and Houdini 🙂
Very cool, just in time for my jump to Houdini.
the year of migration an the war against AD…a “like Syria” scenario
Thanks guys! And to answer Gordon’s question about why this has been created, it’s for a couple of reasons but mainly it is simply a stepping stone into learning Houdini, you can keep working in Max as you’ve always done and start using more and more H in your workflow as you go. Max is a great generalist tool but lacks in VFX, Houdini is somewhat opposite in that respect.. joined together they beat everything out there.
@jonathan de Blok
Max lacks in VFX. Not at all.
That’s like saying Maya lacks in character tools because Houdini started to put character tools in the package.
If an artist is no good Houdini isn’t going to help them.
@mike d. Unless you’re assuming someone has purchased a LARGE number of plugins, Max DOES lack in VfX. I’ve used Max and supported it in various forms for more than 20 years…I have defended it, but if you look at pretty much ANY VFX need, Max is totally outclassed/outpowered by Houdini
Yeah I was referring to out-of-the-box Max, no vdb, only simple physics, no fire/fluids, no destruction, etc.
This is handled by plugins and those can turn max into an awesome VFX powerhouse. SideKick+Houdini is just another way of achieving that.
I will ask directly now hehe
Jonathan please, now do the same with Blender (there are ways to overcome the GPL licensing terms and still make it commercially sold) 🙂
Cheers!
@Jim Todd
Tools are the name of the game.
I can race a honda civic but not one that rolls off the sales lot…
And your tools are what exactly?
FumeFX, TP, Frost..? Stoke, PhoenixFD or Realflow..? Ornatrix or Hairfarm..
and possibly Krakatoa for more advanced particle manipulation with MagmaFlow..?
Is any of these tools part of Max?
NO.
Max does not lack in fx. It has no fx tools at all.
(pFlow once was a powerful tool. That was 10 years ago.)
