Esri has released ArcGIS CityEngine 2024.0, its 3D urban design software including the Visual CGA Editor which is now available to all users, moving out of its Beta phase. This tool makes it easier for users without programming backgrounds, such as architects and urban planners, to work with models. The new content library includes sophisticated components for site partitioning and massing.

The release also improves integration with ArcGIS Urban, allowing users to edit elevation or terrain layers within CityEngine. These layers are imported as separate terrain layers per scenario, which can be modified using intuitive terrain editing tools. The modified terrain can then be uploaded back to ArcGIS Urban.

CityEngine now supports direct sharing of scenes to ArcGIS Online. The “Share as Web Scenes” feature allows users to quickly export and view 3D scenes in Scene Viewer, enabling the exploration and organization of multiple scenarios.

Additionally, users now have access to an expanded library of high-quality materials for adding textures to buildings and open spaces. This library can be accessed through a dedicated browser.

For a full rundown of the updates, visit Esri’s website.

It’s odd there hasn’t been a new post in almost a month here on cgpress. that is a first. Hope everyone is alright.

Sorry CityEngine 😉

Well … When it feels that all/most posts are followed by a shit-storm and negative comments, motivation goes away. Don’t feed the trolls! Yes, cgpress is one of my daily morning-clicks as well; at least it does not require much time lately.

Don’t fret about the negativity. CG Press is essential. I’ve been a daily reader since 2000, back when it was known as Max Underground.
The negativity reflects the changing nature of the industry and users’ frustrations. It’s not a reflection on CG Press itself.

By the way… Joker, is possible to make a tool which use nodes for totally substitute the obsolete “Parameter Wiring” panel? I know that several max users dream to have the whole thing controlled by nodes, and that this is something that a plugin NOT will solve (like zookeeper failed before)… but i am asking only about something more friendly for substitute this hateful panel. I am not a programmer, I am just an artist, and I will certainly accept your answer if this is complicated to resolve due to limitations of Max itself.

I mean something that can rig the basic transforms by nodes…

Thank you for everything, you already know very well how much the Max community loves and need you.
