The Blender Foundation has announced that Apple has joined its Blender Development Fund as a Patron member, joining the ranks of Epic, AMD, NVIDIA, Facebook, Unity, and AWS as the highest contributing donors. In addition, Apple will be providing “engineering expertise and additional resources to the Blender HQ and development community to help support Blender artists and developers.” Find out more about the Blender Development Fund.
Best of this, Metal support for Cycles to use it with the M1, I’m eager to test this 🙂
or blender for Ipad, this kind of tablet had enought resource to do 3d, i started to do 3d with an amiga 8mhz with 512 kb of ram, i think most of tablet had enought resources to do 3d.
Nomad sculpt is pretty good for sculpting on ipad ☺️ but yes i would also love it to have blender on the ipad maybe A14 and A15 can also handle a light version with Just evee or so?
the new iPads do have massive power, but the issue with 3D software is screen estate. Even a 15″ laptop screen is too small to work comfortably.
The problem is not the hardware, the first problem is that the App Store EULA is incompatible with the GPL it seems, also another problem would be the UI, is not designed for a touch screen.
I agree that it would be awesome to have Blender on iPad, at least for sculpt 🙂
Nice now I can make an Apple smoothie inside a Blender 😀
Atari joins the Blender Development Fund
😀 Commodore will follow soon…
I think it´s good news. More money for Blender to make progress. And the exchange Blender <> Scenekit/Metal realy needs more love.
With the astonishing amount of money they have and make, they could give 1 million a year and not even have a thousandth of a percent change in their money stats.
I hope they will be decently generous…
i’m sure apple dropped the cash because they are generous and not because they want blender on their shiny new toys! 😀
Hopefully this doesn’t result in a “.blendz” filetype or any other Apple vendor-lock happenings… Great to another company supporting the Blender Development Fund regardless!
How could that be? That’s simply not possible.
This fears come everytime a big company supports Blender, and never happened because the GPL prevents it basically, also the Blender Institute.
Nothing prevents Apple from having their own Blender version with as much locks as they want, but that’s not efficient neither profitable so… not gonna happen 🙂
