Arnold update for 3DS Max adds the ability to instance geometry, lights and more using PFlow

Solid Angle has released a new update to MaxToArnold that adds some handy features for creating complex scenes. This update adds a new PFlow operator called Arnold Shape that replaces each particle with an instance of a chosen object at render time. As well as geometry, this also makes it possible to instance Arnold Specific primitive like Procedural, Alembic and even lights. This update also adds the ability to export particle systems as native Arnold points primitives. Find out more in the release notes.

Its a small step for Arnold, a giant leap for 3dsmax.

Years of PFlow requests go right into the bin but Arnold gets a new operator?
I guess if PFlow would get the love it deserves any renderer could hook up into it easier, helping ALL users.
Please Autodesk, there are so many users out there spending their money on Max but do not use Arnold, make sure you don’t forget about these folks, too.

The problem with the actual system in max, is that if you want instance at render time, needs to be done by the renderer. Vray created VrayInstancer, to be able to instance over pflow. Then you should ask your renderer developer to support pflow instancing at render time…. Or ask autodesk to come with a global instance at rendertime solution like packed primitives in Houdini. (There is a request at 3dsmax feedback for that I created long time ago).
