OSL becomes an Academy Software Foundation
The Academy Software Foundation has announced that OSL has been accepted as an Academy Software Foundation project alongside OpenVDB, OpenColorIO, OpenEXR, and OpenCue.
In 2018 the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and The Linux Foundation launched the Academy Software Foundation (ASWF), an organisation created with the aim to provide “a neutral forum for open source software developers in the motion picture and media industries to share resources and collaborate on technologies for image creation, visual effects, animation and sound.”
OSL was released as open-source in 2010 so it could be used by other visual effects and animation studios and rendering software vendors. It has since become the main embedded language in several industry-standard renderers, and it has been used in 100+ films including Spider-Man: Far From Home, The Angry Birds Movie 2, and Men in Black: International.

So what does this mean for the layman?
More, and better OSL updates following standards…that’s my guess from reading the web page.
Is OSL good?
Osl is the industry standard shading language for several years now. Being a ASWF citizen now does only mean it does get a steady stream of development and does follow the “Disney” rules.
I understand that, just questioning if it is good.
Define good. If good for you is flexible, cross platforms, already adopted for multiple 3dapps/renderers, then yes, its good.
That is enough . thanks.
