OpenPBR: a new MaterialX subproject unveiled by the Academy Software Foundation
The Academy Software Foundation has announced a new subproject of MaterialX, known as OpenPBR.
OpenPBR, developed by Autodesk and Adobe, is an open-source shading model that aims to provide a more user-friendly bridge between different software. It is intended to succeed Autodesk Standard Surface and Adobe Standard Material, with both companies focusing their efforts on OpenPBR in the future. OpenPBR enhances MaterialX, an open standard for representing rich material and look development content in computer graphics, by offering a more specific interface for artists to work within and facilitating data transfer between assets with minimal conversion required. The OpenPBR repository will be publicly launched on Github later this month. Find out more on the ASWF website.
