I’m just here for Juang3d!
Hahaha
I came just for the comments
Me too ! haha
Nothing to say, forewarned is forearmed. 🙂
Nicely said my good sir
Well this was unexpected 🙁
Who saw this coming? Talk about out of the blue…
OMG! Maybe they aren’t losing market with all this blender hype. It’s sad to know that, really really sad.
For many of us, Blender still can’t do what is needed, and would actually cost far more in man hours for the workarounds vs forking over for maintenance/subscription increases. They know this. We also aren’t going to donate in the hopes that it will get a proper CAD importer within 5 years while paying more for labor at the same time to switch… Unfortunately, financially speaking, it doesn’t make sense for certain studios. Sad as it is, it’s the way it is. I like where Blender is going from where it was, and happy it works great for some peoples’ workflows. But for what I do at work day in and day out, it won’t cut it for a long time, as the current state of the STEP importer that is in development is laughable/sad. And that’s just one of many formats it is missing to import.
Agreed, while Blender is great, it’s mainly targeted at character animation stuff.
Blender could increase their user base substantially if they would give architecture and design more development focus.
I already answered to this, you don’t have to donate in the hopes of anything, organize a crowdfunding campaign and hire a developer to create what you need.
I understand that it may not be enough for you, for many of us working with CAD data it’s enough, and for what it’s not working fine we have workarounds that give us the right model.
For example we found PConPlanner to handle cad data that max imports wrong, it’s free and it’s efficient and from there we go straight to Blender, I understand this cannot be the dreamed workflow for you if what you need is a constant link with the cad data, and for that what I usually say is two things 🙂
1.- What I already said, if it’s really important to you and you really want to be able to use Blender, organize the development project you need and manage to get a crowdfunding.
I don’t say you or your studio have to pay it in full, but rather organize the development because it will pay off in the near future if you have what you need.
2.- It’s not incompatible with the first option, but meanwhile, obviously, don’t use Blender 🙂
I said it many times, Blender don’t have a “normal” development pace where just the developers and the owning company can do things, Blender works as a collaboration of many in the interests of those many, if you miss something, just put the effort in getting it, it’s not that hard 🙂
But if you don’t really want to use Blender, you simply don’t care and you are fine with your current software / workflow (and with the 15%/30% increase in price) then, it does not matter, it may not worth the effort, it’s a matter of wanting to be involved or not, not everyone wants to collaborate, some people wants just to use Blender, and it’s perfectly fine, but that people won’t get what they need (unless it’s in line with what other people that wants to be involved needs or if it’s in line with the B.I. needs 🙂 )
Another nail to the coffin…
Amazing just what I was hoping for in the new year… said no one ever.
Autodesk continues to innovate and push the boundaries of what is possible in 3D graphics . . . as it relates to pricing and licensing models.
I am an Autodesk shareholder and I demand year on year growth for my investment until I sell my shares. If that means running the product into the ground, that is fine with me, I do not need to use the product and have zero interest in it’s long term outlook.
Dear Mr.Bob, shareholder – we are really trying to make our best and we will make even better pricing updates in near future for our dying softwares. We really try to milk everything we can from our customers to maximum our profits for our beloved shareholders.
Faithfully yours.
AD
Well why don’t anyone here buy shares there, then they will offset the costs.
Those who are gamblers and profiteers probably have, and probably write comments online to support their position.
Strangely you call gamblers when at same time profess certainty of profiteers profits… That really shows who you really are and nothing good: you hate investments, profits and Freedom.
The only certainty in the stock market is that there will be winners and losers. It is gambling, whether you wear a suit or not.
Controls are normally used to limit the abuse of monopoly situations in free markets. You will see what happens to a once solid business model when those controls are not in place, and the people are allowed to abuse the system for their own short term gain.
33% is COLOSSAL and GIGANTIC all so ENORMOUS JUMP
if you got just 1 workstations that uses multi-user subscriptions
that going to eat into so much into company’s profit just imagine you got 20 + workstations
will they hire more programmer’s with the money and invest into the product’s
… No its “Autodesk”
…come on guys!! …only 9 comments with complaints?
For 3dsmax, the indie version, single user, same software, is almost 11 times cheaper.
I love how this company handles fair prices…
That will be scrapped after 2 – 3 years, it is just to get you off your perpetual maintenance arrangement.
That’s why I own and still use my max2014. It still serves all my needs.
but soon you won’t be able to activate it, in case you need to reinstall it on another machine.
According to the law, at least in Europe, if Autodesk denies the means to activate and use the perpetual license to the perpetual license holders, those license holders have the right to activate and use their licensed software by any means they can find.
https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/en/TXT/?uri=CELEX:32009L0024
Autodesk never gave an official (or extra-official answer) to this law, so there are two possible situations here:
– Autodesk is breaking the lay consciously, so they are by fact doing something illegal, but they think it’s worth it since first people will have to denounce them and prosecute them and they think no one will do that.
– Autodesk don’t think they have to comply to European laws
– Autodesk will provide necessary means to perpetual licenses holders to keep activating their entitled licenses
Law important points:
Also I forgot to say but, points 14 and 15 too give us protections and the rights to use the software;
(14)
A person having a right to use a computer program should not be prevented from performing acts necessary to observe, study or test the functioning of the program, provided that those acts do not infringe the copyright in the program.
(15)
The unauthorised reproduction, translation, adaptation or transformation of the form of the code in which a copy of a computer program has been made available constitutes an infringement of the exclusive rights of the author. Nevertheless, circumstances may exist when such a reproduction of the code and translation of its form are indispensable to obtain the necessary information to achieve the interoperability of an independently created program with other programs. It has therefore to be considered that, in these limited circumstances only, performance of the acts of reproduction and translation by or on behalf of a person having a right to use a copy of the program is legitimate and compatible with fair practice and must therefore be deemed not to require the authorisation of the rightholder. An objective of this exception is to make it possible to connect all components of a computer system, including those of different manufacturers, so that they can work together. Such an exception to the author’s exclusive rights may not be used in a way which prejudices the legitimate interests of the rightholder or which conflicts with a normal exploitation of the program.
Another possibility, Autodesk may exclude Europe from discontinuing the activation of older software versions.
Yes, it could be, but it seems in the U.S. there is also a similar law that prevents companies from doing such an unethical thing (and illegal thing), so it’s not something that affects only E.U., I put the E.U. example because it was the one I had at hand, but the same law has a counterpart in the U.S.
I was thinking how they will monetize bifrost. There is a full new team behind bifrost independent of max/maya, obviously dont think autodesk wants to decrease margins. If having a full complete nodal system, with complete solvers systems is 15% price increase, I found it cheap. (Now I want a full complete nodal system, bifrost has been a good start, but needs a LOT to improve and to be added).
This might be biggest update from autodesk ever.
“Don’t want to pay extra?
If you need multi-user access, now is the best time to get Autodesk products like Maya, Mudbox, 3ds Max or Arnold, before the prices increase in February.”
Sounds good. But how about this: use blender, its free and donate small amount for development so it can be even better and no need for subscription.
Shocking…
If i was working as a dev in the 3Ds max team i would be so disapointed right now,
All the hard work they are putting in is being completely overlooked by how autodesk are managing their products.
I have started the migration to blender and I am loving it –
Bend over should be the strapline for Autodesk. It could be something like this.
Autodesk. Bend Over and we’ll supply the lube.
nope. bend over and we’ll make sure you’ll pay for the lube, too!
Someone should write a hack to change the startup splash screen with a suitable abstracted image!
I think you’ll find they’ll only rent you the lube.
Have a look at gmaps, search for some of the Adesk buildings and imagine the rent… I guess a good chunk of the sub money is being eaten up by the rent alone.
Switchet to blender already, just smiling 🙂 New update 2.82 is coming soon… for free 🙂
I can just say: thank you AD, With your Politic I now Houdini. Its AMAZING!!!!! thnak you!!!
cheers KK.
