The thing is to know what is the actual license they would use and what are their requirements.
I like the direction Autodesk is going.
First they announced an open source real time path tracer and now this.
I missed that announcement, where is it?
This is the first result when I do a search, so I’m assuming it’s this.
https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/engineering-hub-blog/aurora-a-real-time-path-tracing-renderer-that-enables-fast/ba-p/11322421
Yeah thats the link, i heard they showed it briefly during the ADSK Vision Series on August 4th 2022, wasn’t able to watch it myself, but they should upload the video soon on their youtube channel.
Thanks, I’ll take a look, it seems to be under Apache, could be an interesting project as long as they don’t abandon it 🙂
That renderer can’t be more than a publicity stunt. Autodesk has Arnold, so why would they ever release some concurrent software for free?
Why should it be a publicity stunt? They have released some open source stuff before. It would make sense to have a Real Time Path Tracer for the LookdevX project.
read the announcement at least. how is a realtime renderer concurrent to an offline renderer?
Even if RV is open sourced, it’s still pure garbage. It needs 30 secondes to be open, it wastes ram faster than a memory leak and the user interface is at the top level of what unintuitive can be.
‘to’ being the operative word here. is there a timeline or ” possibly maybe in the bext 10 years’ like everything they do
