Autodesk’s position – a trader’s perspective

Seeking Alpha has published an interesting analysis of Autodesk’s current position by Amit Ghate, a private trader and financial journalist. He surmises 4 key points: That Autodesk’s switch to rental had been mostly accepted by large companies, but vehemently opposed by small companies; that they have reduced their R&D spend to manage costs; that their financial position continues to worsen; and that these factors combined are pushing small customers to competitors, making them more vulnerable to change.  The article contains much more detail can be read in full on Seeking Alpha’s website.

!However, we continue to make meaningful progress in converting non-paying users into subscribers.”

That is how they perceive the people who purchased licenses and paid for upgrades for 20 years.

Yes… we were “Noise” to them… and I speak in past time because we are not Autodesk customers anymore, we completed the migration and we are VERY happy with the change to Blender, it’s awesome 🙂

Cheers!

How do you handle mocap in Blender, if at all? I’m still stuck looking for a biped substitute.

What part of the process you mean, because biped it’s just a rig, like a CAT rig or a HumanIK rig or an standard bones rig.

To create a rig you can use Rigify or BlenRig, both are simple enough when you know them.

To handle mocap files you can use a mocap addon:
https://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Extensions:2.6/Py/Scripts/Animation/Motion_Capture_Tools

Here you have one tutorial regarding this matter:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VhbSrau-0c

Does this answer your question?

If not, please specify a bit more and I’ll try to help you.
Also you can subscribe to the Blender Cloud and access a ton of traning material (a subscription can be as low as 25€ every three months).

Cheers!

Thanks, Juang, I’ll study these. I’ve been bound up with biped because of it’s easy handling of mocap, but I suppose things have moved on, even if Max hasn’t.

Forget about autodesk.
You always hace a choice- Houdini indie, Blender FREE, Silo for modeling, Sculptris for sculpting, and much more for CAD !
Autodesk- it;s a cancer for 3d-CG industry.
Don’t pay to thief.
