BECTU, the UK’s media and entertainment trade union, has launched a campaign to ensure that every VFX artist working on a project receives an on-screen credit for their work. Citing several examples the trade union argues that often less than 50% of artists are credited. Paul Evans, BECTU’s assistant national secretary, denounces the situation as “a particularly cruel cut. VFX artists are often asked to work long hours of unpaid overtime, coming in at weekends and pulling shifts that are legally questionable – and they are persuaded to do this because they believe that having a credit for a film like Star Trek Beyond will open doors for them and look great on their CV”. You can read more about the campaign and get involved on BECTU’s website.
