Blender 2.72 is out, upcoming developments disclosed

The Blender Foundation announced the release of the latest version of its open source 3D software. New features include: updates to the Cycles GPU renderer, UI improvements (pie menus and enhanced tooltips), modeling additions, streamlined texturing workflow, new Sun Beams node for the compositor, etc.
Also of note, Ton Roosendaal has detailed the improvements to Blender that will be added as a result of the ongoing production of the 5th open movie project, which include Alembic support, Opensubdiv integration, viewport enhancements, etc. More on Blender.org and project Gooseberry’s blog.
