Brexit consequences for UK film and TV industries – initial reactions

Brexit consequences for UK film and TV industries – initial reactions

Following the UK’s referendum that resulted in a vote in favour of leaving the European Union, a number of outlets have discussed the possible consequences for the film, TV and games industries. It should be noted that at this point there is little understanding and no precedent for the UKs relationship with the EU following a split, so much of what follows is based on reactions from industry and educated guesses.

at least you have one that can now potentially break.
it’s the peoples vote and it is a two year transition after all it’s not like tomorrow it’s game over. it’s the peoples vote, deal with it. and no one forces you to stay in the UK there are beautiful places all over the world for VFX artists to work. if you where an igloo builder in the antarctica and not be able to build igloos anymore you’d face a bigger problem 🙂 man up, deal with it instead of crying all over the news and internet.

“man up, deal with it” and move to another country dragging your family with you, with all the consequences it implies. It’s not only about beautiful countries where you can do vfx, that’s a childish vision of this subject.

All this is a bit ridiculous, especially when reading the reasons why lots of “brexiters” voted Leave, with London voting 60% remain.

Well, now the people of London will know how the Americans felt when almost all jobs went away to Europe and Canada.

Nobody, except Americans, seemed to care about the danger of subsidies. What mattered was that VFX was in high demand in London. At least the artists in London might start to emphasize with what happened in the US.

It’s unfortunate, but that’s how it goes.

Huh.

The (useless) petition was started by a Brexiter, Farage was asking for a second referendum if it was the same margin for Remain.

I’m sure the Brexiters would have been the same if it had gone the other way.

Personally, although I think the EU is flawed, the problems that people cite as a reason to leave aren’t going to improve by this.

Brexiters like Daniel Hannan MEP has already rowed back on the claims to reduce immigration, IDS has already denied the £350 million going to the NHS (used as a slogan on the side of their bus) was a possibility not a promise, and no-one seems to care about the unelected House of Lords.

On top of that a spike in racist/xenophobic attacks, an MP shot dead and the Tory and Labour party tearing themselves apart, and then there’s the financial turmoil and

I accept it and move on, but it was a colossal waste of time – I can certainly think of better things to spend money on than gradually unpicking the UK from the EU.

My concern is whether the EU can do enough to stop a complete collapse of the EU.
