Software used: 3DS Max, 3DS Max (TyFlow)
Subjects: Animation
Eloi Andaluz Fullà has released a roundup of 3 techniques to animate trees in 3DS Max when you don’t have access to a procedural modeller like Speedtree or GrowFX. Watch it on YouTube.
Such obsolete and useless technologies. BTW:tyflow&TP is not MAX’s own function.
I do have to agree
“Such obsolete and useless technologies”: Literally untrue and quite boring
Literally true, and there’s nothing boring about the truth
I meant literally in the literal sense
Exactly whats your point? This are general techniques that you can do on any 3d software. And if you try it… you will see that 3dsmax is the fastest of them all because if something 3ds max excells is on editpoly and modifiers deformers performance.
If you have a better/faster way just show it! For sure are other techniques and I will like to learn them.
This was a good video and these are great tips for quick and dirty ways to animate trees; exactly what you promised and applicable to a variety of applications. Thanks!
Thought it was a good tutorial Eloi. Really enjoy your channel and your contributions to the Max community. Im just so exhausted by the constant unconstructive Max bashing on this site. It’s really dispiriting to those of us that work everyday in the software, who come seeking inspiration, and instead get lost in a deluge of suspicious levels of negativity. If this site was funded on the statement “I left Max behind years ago…” then it’d be worth as much as Facebook.
If you still stay at the level of “this tutorial is very good”, then all right, I wish you happiness!
Share a link to a better way?
yes,I have! here is my tree-rig file(max2020).

Please can you help repost this file. Thanks

Again, unconstructive, negative and insulting to the point where I have to rationally assume your not even in the animation business.
The example is above, but with your IQ, I guess you don’t understand it.
IEN: could you please stop your childish attitude right now ?
And just for completeness: your link to your own great solution is 404
here!

Its a excellent rig, well done.
Sharing this is a much preferred way of informing others.
Thank you.
IEN in production a tree rig is not always the best solution, a complex solution may be good for a hero asset but for an non-important asset many many times this kind of solutions are better, more efficient, faster and easier to rapidly implement them.
If you think someone’s “IQ” is a barrier to understand your rig then it’s not a good rig, because a rig has to be both, efficient and easy to use, making things over complex does not make things “better”, in fact it’s a sign of something done to re-assure ones secureness in their own expertise, but at the same time it shows the lack of expertise because it lacks the experience of production and the most important thing in production, “KIS”
I don’t say that you lack of experience, however If I would have to evaluate if you have or don’t have experience based on your behaviour I would say that no, your behaviour is aggressive, childish and a kind of abrasive behaviour that is bad for any team, I hope that’s just because you are online and behind a nick, I hope you have better manners in real life to behave with your work mates and your friends.
The only fact in the end is that these techniques, while used in many productions for many years, don’t get old, the video is a good refresh for both, new artists and seasoned artist, having a “KIS’ reminder is always good.
Now… make it a video about this with Blender Eloi, I know you can hehehe (no matter if it’s slower, it will show once again the problem with high poly meshes to devs) 🙂
In fact, this is not a rig of bones. It is very versatile and can collide and interact. I uploaded the file again, download it quickly, or it’s gone again.
For me it’s gone 🙂
I don’t use Max anymore.
So,What are you doing here?
Let’s see:
– Because I appreciate knowledge in general.
– Because I’ve been here since before this was cgpress and it’s my preferred CG news site.
– Because I appreciate good tutorials made for any software.
– Because I’m an expert in Max, even when I don’t use it any more.
– Because I appreciate Eloi and his videos.
Why are you here?
Just because you use max?
There is no need to come over a video to say “this is crap”, just ignore it, it does not damage you, if you have a better technique, GREAT! Show it in a video so everyone can learn for you and your expertise 🙂
Oh. OK

Cool 🙂
Eager to see your video about your rig!
I’m sure it could be very useful 🙂
