Corona 12 released
Chaos has announced the release of Corona 12. One of the most requested feature is now included: users can now export Corona scenes to Vantage for rapid test rendering and rendering animations with real-time GPU ray tracing.
Corona 12 also includes Curved Decals, making it possible to apply labels to curved surfaces such as bottles and spherical objects without distortion. A new Virtual Frame Buffer offers features like improved A/B image comparison, multiple LightMix setups within a single render, and deferred bloom and glare calculations, enhancing the rendering process.
The update also improves the Corona Pattern tool, enabling the use of geometric objects to define crop boxes, allowing for precise pattern creation with snapping tools. A Scatter Instance Brush in the 3ds Max version allows users to fine-tune procedural instances.
Corona Sky has been enhanced to support lower sun angles, improving day-to-night transitions, and includes a new Density parameter for cloud customization. The Corona Material Library is now available on Chaos Cosmos.
Additional smaller improvements include updates to Cryptomatte, enabling setup by material and improved functionality in distributed rendering. Material conversions, particularly from VRayMaterial to Corona Physical material, have been refined, and the Scene Converter in Cinema 4D has been enhanced for better compatibility between Corona and C4D bitmaps.
Performance optimizations include improved rendering speed on high-core count machines, better handling of large environment maps, and enhanced viewport performance in both 3ds Max and Cinema 4D.
