Recorded at yesterday’s online UnrealFest event, Unreal Engine for Next-Gen Games covers many of the upcoming features in Unreal Engine aimed at the next generation of games and includes a section with Art Director Jerome Platteaux who provides an in-depth look at how Epic created the “Lumen in the Land of Nanite” UE5 demo. Watch it on YouTube.
Amazing
I had it playing in the background while working, so I couldn’t pay too much attention to it. Did they give any requirements on what geometry could be left as high detail? I’m assuming it is for non-skinned models only? So it would work static environment objects for sure, and maybe for non-deforming CAD models, but are still animated? Could those objects still be animated in other applications and imported, or does it have to be done in UE5? It looked like some of the objects that were breaking apart were highly detailed models. Skinned objects or characters I’m assuming are not able to be high detail at this time?
Very impressed by the amount of geo on the screen at one time. How they are able to stream that data in, is pretty crazy.
