Exocortex announced that their “Crate” Alembic suite of tools for 3DS Max, Maya, Softimage, Arnold and Python, is now available for free and released under an open source license. Exocortex Crate provides a set of professional grade Alembic plugins and tools that enable VFX studios and independent VFX professionals to standardize their tool chains around the Alembic file format.
Besides the 3DS Max, Maya and Softimage plugins, the suite includes Crate for Python, which allows for easy manipulation of Alembic files from the command-line for automating Alembic-related processes in your pipeline. Crate for Arnold, the other complementary tool, is a production tested render-time plugin for the Arnold renderer.
Exocortex will be shifting to a development model where enhancements can be sponsored by studios and other customers of Exocortex Crate.

Very nice to see software being released as open source!
Just a shame we won`t ever see Softimage as Open Source.
Thanks to Exocortex team.
Your move is greatly appreciated and if I need an specific future and have some budget I will ask you for a price and deadline 🙂
Cheers!
I hope someone smarter than me can code in features like Xmesh.
