Areté announced the availability of Digital NatureTools v4.0 for Maya v3.0. The new release features the Pyro plug-in, which includes the fire and smoke volumetric effects technologies Areté has been researching for more than a year.
Other new features of plugins included in the DNT 4 package:
Psunami wave simulation and rendering technology:
– Curved Wake feature – allows users to attach a wake to any non-linear path.
– Enhanced underwater shading support
– Surface height control allows you to translate the ocean surface in Y
– Bump Map performance optimizations that reduce rendering times by ~15%
– More robust tessellation routine on polygonal ocean using triangles instead of quads

Psyclone cloud volumetric particle shader.
– Object interaction support – obtain the correct optical images for objects placed inside cloud volume.
– Enhanced matte opacity support
– Enhanced support for particle dynamics
P_Liquid shader converts particle systems to full-motion liquid surfaces.
– New algorithm speeds up liquid surface generation up to ten times faster for large bodies of particles
– Enhanced lattice dimension support
– Enhanced support for particle dynamics
– Enhanced reflected ray support
Price is US$1,768 for the basic package (does not include RenderWorld).
