Journey through the layers of the mind

A fun video by London-based artist Memo Akten that is the result of tests visualizing what’s happening inside the inner workings of an artificial neural network when asked to recognize the features of a new image, based on a database of images. The process is iterated by generating an image of what the network ‘thinks’ it is seeing, and feeding that image back into the input.

If the aesthetic looks familiar it’s because the project is based on recent Google research by Alexander Mordvintsev, Christopher Olah and Mike Tyka. Watch the video on Vimeo.
