Shortly after the U.K. government announced the adoption of ODF as its official file format for sharable documents, The Document Foundation has released version 4.3 of its open source office suite. New features include:

- Improvements to OOXML (docx) import and export filters, as well as to RTF file filters
- Font embedding in Writer, Calc, Impress and Draw
- Calc has gone through code refactoring, giving major performance gains for big data
- Improved UI and workflow in Calc
- An optional new formula interpreter in Calc enables massively parallel calculation of formula cells using the GPU via OpenCL
- Impress Remote Control for IOS (in addition to the already available Impress Remote Control for Android), which allows visual management of presentation delivery on the laptop using the screen of an Iphone or Ipad
- Support of animated 3D models in in Impress presentations in the new open GlTF format, plus initial support for Collada and kmz files
- Better comment management on documents in Writer
Also of note, LibreOffice’s repository of extensions and templates keeps growing, offering additions such as a style proofreading software and a Google Docs exporter/importer. More on The Document Foundation’s site.
