The new training DVD takes you through the entire process of compositing 2 HD Shots with 3D integration. Instructor Matt Skonicki demonstrates how to capture a raw plate and HDRI images on location, tracking in SynthEyes, setting up the 3D scene, creating masks in After Effects, and compositing in Autodesk Composite. Maya is used for the 3D animation sections, but the other parts may still be of use to Max users. More at Eat 3D.
this is for maya.. :/ this is Max underground isn’t it??
Yes and yes. 🙂 But we are not at war with other software. We feature news not directly tied to Max that may be useful to readers (and people have expressed their appreciation for this).
Watch the video of the DVD on the site, the Maya part doesn’t occupy more than a percentage of it, which is trivial to reproduce in Max.
Thanks for the criticism.
That makes sens. i thought here it is only max.. but somehow, there is no other place where best news updates are getting posted! thanks for the service guys! 🙂
A pleasure! Thanks for the good words Ravihara. Glad to hear you enjoy reading the site.
This news actually has an extra value to it: there are counted, few training materials available yet that cover comprehensively the entire live action / film / CG integration process (without taking into account the specialized VFX ones, which are much more focused). And none of them uses Max. Which is odd, since if one was available it would sell like hot cookies. There must be a reason for this.
The only other comparable material published is the 7 DVD set by Per Holmes:
Visual Effects for Directors

But it also uses Maya in its 3D sections.
Well, we must agree that Max lost its position in Film VFX very long time ago.
This tutorial seems to be good but there is something that makes no sense, they use SynthEyes to track and Composite to compositing since Autodesk sells you the whole media and entertainment creation package which includes Matchmover, why don’t they use it?
I agree with Erik.
