Maxon brings 3D to Adobe Illustrator with a new Cineware plugin

Maxon has released a Cineware plugin for Illustrator, adding the ability to add, edit and adapt 3D objects directly within Adobe’s vector based drawing application. Features include the ability to transform objects and edit materials, including applying vector artwork to the surface of models; preset cameras and tools to edit the view to any vantage point with lights that can be enabled, disabled and tinted. The release also comes with several preset models, focused on packaging, created in partnership with Turbosquid.

Cineware for illustrator is free, but limited to importing existing .c4d files only. Users who need to create their own objects will need to upgrade to a commercial version. Find out more on Maxon’s website and watch a preview on YouTube.

Sh*t!!! I have this strong feeling about that Maxon is gonna be sold to Adobe very soon.. F*ck… If that happends and it goes all rental only – then i must focus all my brain capacity to learn Houdini and buggy Blender (yes, i can get blender crash multiple times in one hour, that’s why i have tried to avoid that software, it might be hardware issue or my way work and click multiple times and jump from menu to menu and tool to tool, with C4D I don’t need to worry about crashing, it is rock solid but now i fear that Adobe is really going to buy this software developer) (probably i need to start learn Modo also, it was nice software but few years their development has been slow and buggy, but its still more stable than blender :/ ).

And why I am against rental only?

Because I feel like hostage if software developer do nothing else than just cash with useless updates. Like Adobe has done many years, not real updates. Or like Autodesk, there was few years without bigger updates, but now when there is growing up competition (Houdini, Modo, C4D, Blender) they have started to develop their tools again because they can’t milk money endless without doing anything – 3D coat and Zbrush has wake up autodesk from deep sleep and now they are going to develop their Mudbox again after years – but they have long way ahead, and i guess they are gonna take it slowly because they have no worries as long as users are happy and pay their rent. That is the idea of rental software, do as low as you can to keep your “customers” / “the hostages” happy 🙂 this how i see this rental only option world… because there is no options, SideFX is offering rental, perpetual, free versions from their software, that kind of option offering i love, when customers has option to choose their way to support software developer – that is the best option to customers and that is freedom which makes users to trust their software developer as long as there is those options available.

And before anyone mention: yes, Autodesk is waking up slowly and trying to convince existing users from rental benefits by integrating Bifrost to 3DS and updating mudbox with statement (we are getting things back on track) – and I believe they are going to make changes, but there was few years without real development (at least for Mudbox) so thats why it looks more like convincing current rental customers from rental “benefits” (always up to date, always newest features, faster development and release etc.)

I don’t think Adobe can ever buy Maxon, they’re part of the Nementschek group.

Maxon recently confirmed again that they are not going for subscription only. Moreover you can even deduct a big part of the already paid rental cost when you buy a perpetual license. No online activation needed. Sounds like the opposite of AD to me.

Cinema 4D is just pure joy to work with, rock solid, modern and feature rich. Additionally there are lots of great plugins and renderers available. I’m a happy Maxon MSA customer.

Maxon has an interesting approach, it’s super user friendly, they try to be different.
The duo Mograph/X-particles is a pure joy to use, and very powerful.
