What exactly the-f does it do that Houdini doesn’t already than the hyperbole description on the website? “Modeler is the world’s most powerful polygonal and SubD modeling software. It is based on Houdini and gives you the power of procedural and direct modeling features”

Maybe if you used Houdini would understand what Modeler does and how it helps to be faster since it will behave like other programs.
While $100 is a lot for some people, it is still not like you can come here and start trashing the guy’s business and confidence only because you are ignorant about it.

I mean, if you have used Houdini as modeler and you are fine with the way it works, good for you there are times when you just want to do your work and don’t care or need about procedural, or nodes or anything like that as much, like making some environment that you only want to send to zbrush or 3DCoat and start sculpting on it, you don’t need to care about nodes with that.

But for example: when you enable Modeler, you will get, let’s say a different environment, you get hotkeys replaced and all, like other packages, like w for translating, F for extrude, u to use the houdini extrude, K for knife, C for connect, Bevel B… and so on, so you get to model like in any other software.

Modeler also adds interesting nodes and doesn’t only use what it is available in Houdini already. for example, connect, connect works like it works in other packages, you select anything: points, primitives or edges and you can connect it, easy. you can switch easily from groups if needed, a tiny change on the type of object and you are ready to go. How do you do that quickly in Houdini? I mean, hold A to select many primitives, then connect them and add 5 divisions to them and done?. you can’t just do that, the fastest way to get divisions in faces is to use Edge divide which means, only edges, while Modeler Connect node uses the 3 types of selections, so you can even connect many points at once really easy, with just one node.

I mean we are talking about modeling like other packages, yes you can use tools to do the same and all that, and nice procedural modeling and balbla many hacks and stuff you can do, but the point of Modeler is to make Houdini be like other packages, which does it well, and I don’t know why it takes so long for SideFX to do something like that, because while it has improved for years, it is still not great to use if all you want to do is non-procedural normal modeling.

Could the noobs just stop commenting about what they don’t know?
I wish Sidefx would buy the software and hire that guy.

Also may want to do some basic house-keeping on your website/links as most lead to dead pages which isn’t a particularly professional precident for any product your trying to sell at $100

That sneak peak was not much of a peek at all…. Dragging some objects into a list… umm ok.

Modeler is a great addition for Houdini.

For anyone genuinely curious about what it does, I’ll give an example that makes sense for max users. When modeling in 3ds max it is possible to do most any modeling operation right inside of Edit Poly or Editable Poly; beveling, extuding, duplicating sections of geometry, etc. By default, Houdini doesn’t work this way and it would be analogous to having to make a sub-object selection and then adding a modifier for every single operation you want to perform on a mesh. Houdini does this semi-automatically and uses nodes instead of a modifier stack but the idea is the same.

Modeler lets the user do most any modeling operation without this additional overhead and adds other unique features as well.
