(Updated) Ephere have released a new video showing how to set up a furry character in Maya by using Ornatrix’s Surface Comb operator to define hair shape and Length operator to refine it. The video aims to show how the plugin’s non-linear workflow can make your life simpler in every day character setup. Watch it on Vimeo.
(Updated) Ephere have released a new video showing how their Maya plugin allows to turn a bunch of NURBS curves into a parametric, non-destructive hair style in just a few clicks. Watch it on Vimeo.

Ephere, developers of the 3DS Max plugin dedicated to hair, fur and feather creation, are porting the software to Maya. Ornatrix for Maya is currently being developed in closed beta, and according to Ephere it still has a long way to go before being released. A preview video is available on Vimeo

Think that a third party solution can always improve performance, also if you use a mixed pipeline where you used Ornatrix in max, this will be a very welcome addition, and also think that this as a plugin can give you more features currently not present in Maya nHair.
I don’t know nHair too deeply but there should be some added value to this, if that were not the case then ephere would not be doing this I think 🙂

Cheers.

Maya hair is good. It was used in so many films I don’t know why I’d use a plugin.
