Photoscan 1.5 released and renamed Metashape
Agisoft has released a new version of Photoscan and renamed the popular photogrammetry application Metashape. Version 1.5 includes a new mesh generation technique that uses depth maps. According to Agisoft the new algorithm provides more accurate results in less time thanks to GPU acceleration (that’s not an option in the older dense cloud technique). To avoid overloading limited GPU memory, the method employs an “out of core” implementation.
The new release also includes the ability to automatically classify geometry using machine learning. For example, parts of the dense points cloud can be categorised with labels like soil, vegetation, buildings etc. There’s also a new option for cloud-based processing in addition to the already-supported network and local processing.
Metashape is offered in a standard edition at $170 and a professional edition for $3,499. For owners of Photoscan 1.4.5 the update to Metashape 1.5 is free of charge. Find out more on the updated Agisoft website.
