Blender
The Blender Foundation has shown previews of new tools, toolbars and widgets proposed for the 2.8 release. The developers are emphatic that this will not replace nor impact Blender's hotkey-based workflow aims instead to improve the functionality of the toolbar by making it consistent across the different modes, adding gizmos for more tools, and making it possible to use Blender visually without needing to learn the shortcuts. Following 6 years of work, a new version of the open source graphics software has been released completing the port to the new GEGL image processing library. This step is a pre-requisite for fully non-destructive editing which is planned for the version 3.2 release and also adds several other benefits including support for multi-threading, high bit depth support, GPU processing, and linear colour space workflows. PlayCanvas is a WebGL games engine that comes in two parts: An MIT licensed open source engine, and a commercial browser-based publishing platform. Having been available for a while in beta, the developers have announced the engine is now mature with the release of version 1.0. (more...)
DaVinci Resolve
Blackmagic Design has announced beta 2 of Davinci Resolve 15. New features include the ability to create sound libraries using the disk database, support for basic HTML text formatting in subtitles, improvements to audio playback for clips with variable speed changes, improvements to FairlightFX plugin performance on all platforms and several performance improvements and bug fixes.
