Dreamworks releases Moonray 1.5
Dreamworks has released Moonray 1.5, the latest version of its rendering software. The update includes small improvements, such as upgrading to Embree 4.2.0 and Optix 7.6, and adding LSB to the container build scripts. It also adds support for the VFX Reference Platform 2023, which includes implicit support for Rocky9, GCC-11, and Python-3.10, ensuring compatibility with the latest development environments.
Among the other new features in MoonRay 1.5 are the initial implementation of a new adaptive light sampling scheme and an improved dw_acos() function over the standard acos() for enhanced mathematical calculations in rendering. The release also introduces automatic CPU-affinity control with its own thread pool, along with several Geo preview settings and execution mode options in hdMoonray for optimized rendering performance.

Any chances of it coming to 3ds Max at some point?
Just like Renderman before it, no chance these things will get ported to anywhere. Maya has had that market fully locked up since its inception. In a strange unorthodox way I really hated that software ever since. If this was some real life sitcom, Max would be the working class hero that was always unfairly oppressed, Softimage the freedom loving idealist that got killed off first and Maya the orwellian government that did the deed and schemed to assassinate Softimage.
Oh and just so blender boys don’t get left out of the show, my script here says blender was like the kids in school both daddies came to pick up.
You forgot to mention that Grandad Autodesk was pulling the strings behind the scenes.
I was speaking of the personalities in Truman show not the ones running the show, that’s a can of worms I don’t want to open right now.
yup, would be cool if it comes to 3ds max
Well, right now it may be possible to integrate in different platforms in an “easy” way, since it has an Hydra Delegate:

BLENDER BLENDER BLENDER
Although this is a renderer optimised for distributed rendering with an emphasis on CPU. I used CORONA heavily with Max between 2011 – 2018 … because I could use a network of admin machines over night when the staff was gone and had good CPU’s but bad GPU’s
I loved the quality of CORONA
I have used MAX since DOSR4 in 1994
Over the last few years I have been porting my skill to Blender –
Blender still lacks on many levels.. but I support the passion, effort and morals… even if it takes me 2x longer because of lack of finesse in modelling, and layered animation, in certain areas…
Also the speed of rendering
My focus now is ingle machine rendering
If this is optimised for multiple CPU based networks .. then I might not choose it
Although .. being open source … it could be implemented on an AWS cluster
Interactive use with multiple nodes in the cloud example:
