SketchUp 2024 introduces speed improvements and ambient occlusion
Trimble has announced the release of SketchUp 2024, introducing several new features including Ambient Occlusion. This feature is designed to improve the visual output directly within the SketchUp environment, reducing the need to use additional rendering software for basic visualization tasks
The Ambient Occlusion feature is now available across various platforms including Desktop, iPad, and LayOut. This development is part of Trimble’s broader efforts to enhance the native visualization capabilities of SketchUp, making it a more comprehensive tool for creating detailed and visually appealing models.
In addition to visual enhancements, SketchUp 2024 has received a series of performance upgrades aimed at boosting productivity. A new graphics engine brings faster rendering times and smoother navigation through complex models. The software now supports improved import and export functionality for USDZ and glTF files, making it easier to move assets between SketchUp and other industry-standard tools.
Furthermore, SketchUp has expanded its Link Sharing feature to the desktop, previously it was only available on Web and iPad. This feature allows users to share a view-only model link with an unlimited number of people who can access and navigate the model in any web browser without requiring a SketchUp subscription.
Other performance improvements include a new Draft Mode in LayOut, enhanced functionality of the Move tool, and better inferencing capabilities that contribute to a more efficient workflow. The updates are part of Trimble’s ongoing commitment to providing robust tools that meet the evolving needs of architecture and design professionals.
