Speedtree 9.5 released with new leaf editing and procedural detail tools
IDV has announced the release of SpeedTree 9.5.
One of the new features is frond manipulation, which allows users to randomise and manipulate the fronds of a leaf. This feature uses gravity, wind, and curling effects to animate the fronds, aiming to add a natural touch to 3D scenes. This removes the need for users to switch between different modeling software for creating these effects.
SpeedTree 9.5 also introduces a feature called Projector, which uses ray casting technology to place procedural details like moss, snow, and twigs on model surfaces. This feature aims to distribute these details efficiently and realistically across large-scale environments, simulating how these elements would naturally accumulate on surfaces.
Finally, this release improves support for height maps to allow users to identify subsections on a mesh using the paint tool in the cutout editor.
SpeedTree 9.5 is now available, and a free trial is also offered. Find out more on the Speedtree website.
