Toon Boom Animation announced the release of Harmony 12, the latest version of its 2D animation software. New features include: natural looking brushes, support for OpenFX plugins, Collada and Alembic import, Unity export for character rigs, volume lighting for 2D objects, improved performance, deformer improvements (including new game bone deformers for game engine compatibility).
Also of note, the software line has been consolidated into two main applications: Harmony and Storyboard Pro. Harmony now comes in three versions: Essentials, Advanced and Premium. The Studio, Animate and Animate Pro versions will no longer be available after Oct 16, 2015.

Have I read this right? Have they gone rental only?
Guess I better keep a close eye on my Animate PC, because I am not going to rent.
I think they’ve only added the rental model, which they are pushing. But looks like you can still purchase perpetual licenses for their new products, and there is an upgrade path from Animate and Animate Pro. You’d have to log in to find out if you qualify, but it looks to be about $500 if coming from Animate Pro.
