Unity acquires ProBuilder
Unity Technologies has announced the acquisition of ProBuilder, a set of simplified poly modelling editing and UV tools that enable users to design, prototype and test levels in the Unity Editor. Key features include the ability to extrude and inset faces, several procedural shapes including stairs for navigation, in-scene UV controls, and editable shapes that can be extruded and further edited using poly-modelling tools.
Other software by the PolyBuilder creators will also be available, including Polybrush which enables users to paint on objects in the unity editor to blend textures, paint vertex colours, scatter detail meshes and sculpt geometry.
ProGrids will also be included. It creates a grid system that snaps on all 3 axis to speed up the creation of modular environments.
Gabriel Williams and Karl Henkel, the creators of ProBuilder, will continue to work on the projects at Unity. All three tools are now free, and are available immediately on the Asset store. In future ProBuilder will be integrated into unity starting from version 2018.1, with the other tools expected to follow suit later in the year. Find out more on Unity’s blog.
