Probably you are right. I also cannot see any other point than “let’s buy something to make the brand stronger”. Unless they plan to make a super system for foliage (Unity HDRP still does not support even grass, and now we have release 10 – I mean, really?).
I agree this seems like a really bad acquisition. (for the speedtree guys)
Personally I don’t really have much faith in the company behind Unity given how badly they handle their main product.
Most likely Epic will buy Plantfactory if they didn’t get there hands on this.
