Chaos Group has announced the release of a free personal learning edition of V-Ray for Maya. PLE licenses are non-commercial licenses valid for 90 days, after which time they can be renewed. Renders are not watermarked and nearly all of V-Ray’s features are available with limitations on render size of up 4K, no batch rendering, distributed rendering or access to AppSDK. According to Chaos Group, V-Ray PLE for Maya is a pilot and the leave the “option open for other products in the future”. Find out more on the Chaos Group website .

For Maya, but not Max? That’s a strange decision, unless they are struggling to get more users on Maya? I hope it comes to Max as well as I wouldn’t mind honing my VRay skills at home.
