I’d love to see them update their UI a bit to make it more friendly with modern setups. It’s a bit cumbersome to use with with multiple monitors since the applications docking and layout system is wonky. Great software though.
The UI is what has kept me from learning it more extensively. I still can’t grasp how scaling, rotation, and moving works as the gizmo isn’t like other applications and never does what I’m thinking it should be doing. Once I learn it, I forget it a month later. And no matter what, I still have to bring it into something else to properly texture with no proper PBR material exporting after all of these years. I thought at some point that would come after the retopo tools were introduced years ago. Luckily I don’t do much organic stuff so I only have to open it about once a year. I use it only when I have to. Well, at least I keep getting free updates, so it was good money spent.
I simply use mudbox more and more because the UI to me is much more user friendly. I’m not saying it’s awesome or great, but it’s easier to look at.
And Mudbox now is $10/month. That is very cheap for an extensive and great package. Just see Ian Spriggs and there’s no excuses.
Sub to own.. C’mon Pixo.. Make it happen!!!
I’m not a fan of forever subscriptions, add one type of sub that will allow the money spent (consecutive) to add towards a perpetual license..
2020 will be awesome! Very strong and useful features.
is the ui any better?
no, it is not. If anything is worse, they keep shoving more and more crap on it. As powerful as it is, the UI is such a messy piece of software
Zbrush UI is perfect…for sculpting. It’s artist friendly, not for technically thinking pseudo artsits…
The UI is perfect as it is. Just takes time to learn.
..and therein lies the problem. It takes too long to learn, and due to its eccentricities, too short a time to forget all the ins and outs of using it. I maybe get to use Zbrush once every 6 months, and each time I find myself re-learning stuff just to do the basics. I don’t know any other software like it. But this argument has been going on since the earliest versions I think, so I doubt anything dramatic will change – we just have to accept the Z-brush UI is on its own unique evolutionary path.
Where is the UV editor they promised on ZBrush Summit a year ago?
Looks like a good update! Especially sculpting and texturing on flattened uvs!
Just a note on this UI discusion. You have to keep in mind that ZBrush is designed to be used with pen and tablet, and I think it does a good job on that. I mean ZBrush is the only Software (in my opinion) I can use with my pen from start to end (without switching to my mouse) (thanks to the Ui:).
