BECTU, the UK's media and entertainment trade union, has launched a campaign to ensure that every VFX artist working on a project receives an on-screen credit for their work. Citing several examples the trade union argues that often less than 50% of artists are credited. Paul Evans, BECTU's assistant national secretary, denounces the situation as  "a particularly cruel cut. VFX artists are often asked to work long hours of unpaid overtime, coming in at weekends and pulling shifts that are legally questionable – and they are persuaded to do this because they believe that having a credit for a film like Star Trek Beyond will open doors for them and look great on their CV". Rearden LLC  has filed an injunction against The Walt Disney Company to prevent them from distributing three films they claim were filmed with their stolen performance motion capture technology; MOVA. Rearden LLC states that "Disney used the stolen MOVA Contour systems and methods, made derivative works, and reproduced, distributed, performed, and displayed at least Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Beauty and the Beast, in knowing or willfully blind violation of Rearden Mova LLC’s intellectual property rights." This lawsuit is the second filed by Rearden LLC in regards to MOVA, as a year ago another successful lawsuit was filed against two Chinese companies for purchasing the stolen technology, which was being licensed by Digital Domain 3.0 at the time. Sweden-based Ftrack AB has announced that Ftrack, its production tracking and asset management tool, will be renamed Ftrack Studio and a new streamlined version focused on review and approvals will be released. FTrack Review is an entry level edition of FTrack Studio, offering users a platform to collaborate on projects with annotations and notes. You can read more about Ftrack Review on Ftrack's website. UK-based Foundry announced two new tools. Elara is a cloud-based platform designed to give an edge to independent professionals and small to medium-sized studios. Bunsen is a new software focused on the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry that provides the foundation for building unified and scalable enterprise visualization pipelines. Through a rules-based workflow, Bunsen aims to reduce the complexity often associated with scaling up the quantity and fidelity of VR, AR, and pre-rendered 3D content produced in CAD pipelines. Both tools will be shown publicly at this year's SIGGRAPH.
