RandomControl released v2.0 of its hybrid-accelerated and physically-based renderer, with a host of new features, including:
– Geometry instancing running on the GPU/CPU
– Render-time subdivisions
– Warm-up cache that eliminates warm-up time in consecutive renders
– Support for IES photometric data profiles
– Ability to paint custom gradients and use them as replacement for IES maps
– Physically-correct motion blur
Also of note, RandomControl has announced the release of Max Live, a plugin that integrates Arion into Max. Watch some new features videos on YouTube and find out more on RandomControl’s website.

If you take a look at their website, you will see that there have been some major changes:
// fryrender does no longer exist
// only support for MAX and XSI. Maya and C4D have been discontinued.
Sorry for this off base subject post.
At the top of the Max Live web page there’s beautiful image of a CG concept motorcycle. However it’s mechanically unsound. I want to ride it but my kidneys say no.
The bike’s suspension would not work. The front fork would compress and dig into the pavement. The rear would only pull out and back with no suspension relief to the bike or rider. Wheel suspension goes up and down, not in and out.
There should be some scrapes on the side. Part of this bike’s design appeal is its visual weight. However the kick stand is too pointed. All that mass would push the stand right through the asphalt.
All that said, where can I buy one.
@ othoap, nor the rear suspension, I’m not even sure what good those springs would do unless to protect you from someone rear ending you.
If you look at every auto render out there, you’d also find that about 98% can’t even get the lug nut spacing and depth right, or no anything about the offsetting of rims and how important that actually is to the type of suspension and braking that that vehicle has. Most artists are not that technical and think that others will not notice. But it’s little details, like what you mentioned, that separates a good artist and a great artist.
All that aside, I’m interested in Arion. No more render node licensing! I wish Next Limit would open their eyes and do the same with Maxwell. It is so slow that you really can’t do anything without spending a crap load to license up your farm.
where’s the demo???
What company thinks that people will buy before try? Unbelievable.
Funny too they say on the blog XSI was easier to do than MAX.
yet no XSI version….
hummmmm…….
