Imagination Technologies is shipping its Caustic Series2 PC boards, the R2500 and R2100, which accelerate PowerVR OpenRL applications including the Caustic Visualizer viewport plugins for 3DS Max, Maya and Rhinoceros. The Caustic boards are designed to bring fully interactive ray tracing to workstations, accelerating look development for artists so that final render results can be viewed while still working on models.
The 3DS Max Visualizer plugin is expected to be available in Q2 2013, with beta trials starting in March. The plugin is based on the Brazil renderer’s technology. Imagination Technologies announced the End of Life of the Brazil renderer in May 2012, sparking heated reactions among its userbase.
