Imagination Technologies previews Caustic Series2 ray tracing acceleration boards

Nov 30, 2012 by CGP Staff

Imagination Technologies’ Caustic Series2 OpenRL PC boards are designed to accelerate Caustic Visualizer viewport plugins for Max and Maya. The plugins bring interactive real-time ray tracing to the working viewports of 3D software, providing higher visual quality than standard rendering viewports, including globally accurate lighting, reflections and shadows within a 3DS Max or Mental Ray scene. Imagination Technologies had announced the acquisition of Caustic Graphics and the Brazil renderer back in 2010, these viewport plugins seem to be all that’s left of the renderer. Read the whole PR on Imagination Technologies’ website.

“…these viewport plugins seem to be all thatโ€™s left of the renderer…”

I reaaallly hope there’s going to be a successor of these plugins implemented as a full blown renderer, not only a viewport thingie. Still, having this for max will be very useful.
Maya users can already give the demo a go, it is really fast and works nicely.

At this point, I believe that’ll only happen in our imagination. ๐Ÿ˜€
