Adobe has revealed what to expect in this year's fall update of After Effects CC. New features include a new advanced puppet engine, the ability to work with depth passes from native 3D layers (finally!), and a new JavaScript expression engine that boast a much more modern architecture and speed improvements of up to 5x.  (more...)

Adobe has announced a new video editing application called Project Rush. Early information would suggest that it isn't intended to challenge Premiere Pro, but appears to be aimed at consumers and Social Media publishers. It is however built on the same core technology as After Effects and Premiere, so what's new? (more...)

Open source plugin ProEXR 2.0 is currently in development and a beta is now available for testing. The update adds support for Cryptomatte to the After Effects plugin, enabling users to decode masks that are created automatically using compatible renderers (including Clarisse, Arnold, Mantra, Redshift and V-Ray). The beta installer is available to download by following the links in the Decoders section of the Cryptomatte GIT repository.

Chaos Group has announced V-Ray 3.7.01 for Nuke introducing progressive rendering plus several other features including support for Nuke 11.1, support for light linking, a new multipoint ramp texture, hair shader and hair sampler support and the addition of dome cameras in VRay Camera. Richard Frangenberg has released a Prism, a new free pipeline management tool for animation and VFX that's compatible with Houdini, Maya, 3DS Max, Blender, and Nuke. In addition it can work with other popular tools including RV, DJV, and VLC for media playback; Deadline and Pandora for submitting to the farm; and Shotgun for project tracking.  (more...)
