3DCoat 2024.30 introduces photogrammetry integration and key workflow updates
Pilgway has released 3DCoat 2024.30, introducing photogrammetry support through integration with RealityCapture, allowing users to convert real-world images into 3D models directly within the software.
In addition, a new volumetric boolean operation with an additional shell has been added, simplifying the process of preparing 3D models for printing and prototyping. Users can apply this feature from the SculptTree menu to create matching parts with precise fit. The Sculpt room also gains new tools, including the Array tool for arranging objects along curves and the Surface Array tool for distributing objects across selected surfaces or low-poly meshes.
The update introduces a reverse workflow that allows users to convert normal maps back into high-resolution sculpted geometry, enabling users to take AI-generated rough models, refine them as high-poly sculpts, and rebake the details for further use.
New retopology tools include the “Extended edge loops” feature, which simplifies marking seams on complex meshes, especially those with triangular topology. The Blender 4.2 AppLink is now supported, and it has its own repository for user-driven updates. Additionally, users can benefit from a real-time search function to filter alphas, materials, objects, and more, improving asset management.
Performance improvements are a key focus of this release. Saving large sculpt scenes has been significantly optimized, and tool switching and layer handling are now faster, particularly in complex projects. The software also supports the export and import of RAW voxel data with PBR textures, providing users with a way to work with raw 3D information in other applications.
Other refinements include improved handling of non-destructive text, curves, and pictures in the paint toolset, making it easier to adjust applied elements later. Painting performance over large faces has been accelerated, and new options in the E-panel allow for expanded shape drawing from the center. Additionally, the Tweak room has been removed, with its tools now integrated into the Paint room.
The release also includes dozens of bug fixes and usability enhancements across various tools. For more details on 3DCoat 2024.30, visit Pilgway’s official website.
