  • Improved pipeline integration to make it easy for studios to configure the software so artists can switch between tasks that require uniquely configured environments, including project settings, user preferences, scripts and plug-ins.
  • The ability to filter what type of objects are displayed on a per viewport basis. Configuration is via the viewport menu or a dedicated icon and filtering can be toggled on or off using the keyboard shortcut Shift+K.
  • A new advanced wood OSL map that includes presets for many common wood types including maple, walnut and oak.
  • Enhancements to Smart Extrude that allow users to cut across multiple edge bodies on the same mesh, Additional improvements are included that improve cutting through non-planar poly and ngon faces.
  • Scene file save performance has been further improved with promises of an additional speed boost of 25%.
  • Arnold’s Tonemap Imager now LUTs and Arnold lights have new defaults that give better first render results, along with sticky settings that enable users to create lights with the same setting as the light previously created.
  • When loading or merging a scene into 3ds Max 2022.3, orphaned layers and objects with no parent layers are now automatically recovered and can be interacted with once again.
  • The Symmetry modifier has gained a new Slice Cleanup Threshold spinner that will allow users to further control the cleanup of vertices that are in close proximity to one another along the cutting plane before the Symmetry action takes place.
  • The Unfold3D Peel action has been refined in the Unwrap UVW modifier to reduce UV distortions. An additional method has also been exposed to MAXScript that enables packing commands to operate with the Unfold3D algorithm, which will help in automation and tools development.
  • The Chamfer modifier’s “Limit Affects” functionality has been updated to generate improved results on non-planar faces and non-collinear chamfered edges.
  • Occlude selection marquee (box) selection actions can now be performed on the Poly component in the Editable Poly and Edit Poly modifier.
  • Auto-Expand Selection in Explorers is now off by default to improve artists’ productivity by allowing them to set up separate views of their data through hierarchical representation in Explorers and spatial organization in the viewport.
  • Show Selection Range in the Time Slider configuration is now on by default, making it easier to quickly scale the range of a selected set of keys.
  • To assist animators who are working with complex rigs, the Viewline Length Absolute option of the LookAt Constraint is now disabled by default, and the “Viewline Length” is also set to 0.
  • Importing models from SketchUp 2021 is now supported.
  • Max can now be installed from hidden folders to improve deployment.
  • Safe Scene Script Execution prevents embedded in scenes from writing to folders that represent the 3ds Max and plug-in package installations and user-defined script and plug-in path.

Awesome update !
I ‘m pretty happy with what the 3ds Max dev team has been fixing and cooking for several years now. This is totally different to how it has been 5 yrs or more back…
A clear sign that 3ds Max is alive and kicking

It’s all thanks to Blender getting hotter on Max’s heels. Clear sign they realize the competition.

So, when they do it right, is because they’re scared (of blender, of all things.), when they don’t do it right, is because they don’t know what they’re doing (while, of course, the critics do.).
They can’t possibly win, can they, with the likes of you.

polishing is always good, but still no animation, no brushes, no bifrost, etc., all features from roadmap still in the same place for year or two, pretty wierd

Hm, i have the feeling the blender Developer will see it and inplement it in blender soon. And AD will put it to max one year later. And yes, max can handle big data. I think blender will work on this too. And then there is no argument to use max anymore.

Wow, so they finally fixed high polling rate mice. I remember it breaking sometime around Max 2015, and not being fixed since – for 7 years. I had to butcher my 1000hz mouse polling rate down to 250hz just because of one piece of software 😐

To be fair, this is’nt only a 3ds Max issue. It’s a general Win 10 issue ( and W11 apparently too, Win 7 did’nt suffer the same problem ). There are several applications which make the problem more obvious, and 3ds Max was one of them. Just do a google for the problem

No. I own a 1000hz mouse since around 2015, and I had a problem in like 3 pieces of software in total, from hundreds I used. In case of one of them, I have reported the issue and it was fixed less than a month after. The other one, Unity Engine, took about 4 months to fix.

There’s no excuse for this to happen in such a high profile and expensive software, and there is no excuse for fix to take almost 8 years.

The fact it happens elsewhere doesn’t make the fix taking such a long time any more valid.

Welp, I guess this is going to be the final version for us people on perpetual maintenance. Was hoping for bifrost integration and animation/rigging improvements but oh well. As long as the plugins I have are still compatible in the future, I’m good. Thanks for years of progress autodesk, It was a good run.

I’m in the same situation. I was surprised I could download the latest update as my perpetual maintenance has just been shut down.

I can’t see any reason to go subscription. Again there are no features in this update I can sell to my clients. 2022.3 is my final version too.

25 years of 3ds Max coming to an end.

For individuals doin contract work, 3ds Max Indie is a somewhat valid solution, of course only if you are eligible ( 100K limit etc ).

Thank you for reminding me of the indie option, although it feels precarious to the whims of Autodesk policy change.

As I am no longer wedded to 3ds Max. I see the problems differently. For example, I have some character work coming up. 3DS Max character tools are old; it is time to look for other modern solutions.

I have a question. In Max version 3 onwards, cat rig cloth hair animation topics did not make any changes in the dynamic discussion. Script is made that we have to spend the money of three Max for side programs. Your promises are not fulfilled at all, why do you lie to people so much? People are wasting their lives for this program. Blender is so advanced that you have to take several centuries to reach Blender with this update status. Do all the body needs if you can not declare
