Nuke 15.0, Katana 7.0 and Mari 7.0 announced
Foundry has announced the release of Nuke 15.0, along with upcoming versions of Katana 7.0 and Mari 7.0.
Nuke 15.0 brings faster creative iteration for artists, thanks to native Apple silicon that increases processing speeds by up to 20%. The update also includes improvements to the CopyCat machine learning tool, making training speeds up to two times faster. Katana 7.0 focuses on reducing the need to switch between applications by improving USD workflows. Similarly, Mari 7.0 introduces new baking tools that speed up the creation of geometry-based maps.
In addition to these enhancements, Foundry’s software updates comply with the VFX Reference Platform 2023 standards. The company is also testing compatibility with Linux versions like Rocky 9.1, Alma, and RHEL. To ease the transition, Foundry is providing dual releases of Nuke and Katana, which allows clients to test new features while also testing pipeline compatibility with the latest Linux releases.
Nuke 15.0 will also feature a tech preview of OpenAssetIO, an open-source standard managed by the Academy Software Foundation. This aims to simplify asset and version management.

How can Nuke Studio + Mari be so outrageously expensive? They charge $6,618.00 PER YEAR for a single license!
Why not? They are literally the only game in town.
The biggest code change is the version number increment…
What a joke this company is, but somehow, they succeed to not get as much backlash as Autodesk while being exactly the same, if not worst, it’s quite impressive!
Same we never made anything ourselves, we just bought existing solutions
Same shit minimalist updates, 5 years of updates equal 2 percents of improvements.
Even more maximal prices, because why not, we have no competition ahahahah,
Even more half of the staff in marketing, the other half in licensing
threatcheck. The user base is way smaller, also the main Nuke users don’t own Nuke, they are compers that use Nuke inside a studio, many of them don’t know a thing about the pricing or licensing scheme, I think that’s the reason.
I agree with you in your analysis.
we really need a like button on cgpress!
I would really love to see Natron get the same traction that Blender has. A budget for a dedicated team of developers to work on it full time. It’s so functional right now but needs more to be done.
Or even Fusion but BMD let it slide.
Yes, when the first BMD Fusion was release it was basically just a re branding from Eyeon, and I was thinking, ok, next version will be a huge change.
But instead of beating Nuke, (and they could because the engine is in many way better), they chose the Resolve feature way, because many more people do video edit than professional compositing. It’s sad. In the end, they never even bothered improving the only thing that was lacking: minimal and easy to change interface issues. They had gold and they make it silver.
