The very talented French VFX studio BUF has posted a showreel highlighting the work they've done over the past 30 years. The reel starts off with the work they did on cult hit "The City of Lost Children" from 1994 and ends with the work they did on "Independence Day Resurgence". Watch it on their Vimeo channel.

3DS Max and Houdini bridge tool Nyx SideKick beta available

Jonathan de Blok has released the first Nyx SideKick beta which is a software that lets you work with Houdini and 3DS Max in an interconnected way. The current beta only supports 3DS Max 2017 and Houdini 16. The tool is being developed by Jonathan de Blok, Artur Leao and Daniel Santana. A tutorial has also been posted that you can view on Vimeo. Southerngfx showcases inspiring sculpts made using VR

Using the Oculus Rift headset, a couple of touch controllers and the VR sculpting program Oculus Medium, Southerngfx have created high quality sculpts which they've compiled into a reel that you can view on Vimeo. On their Vimeo channel you can also view tutorials that goes through this workflow.

Artist Hal Tenny reveals some of his contributions to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Built using fractals Hal Tenny submitted various conceptual assets to the VFX teams working on the upcoming movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The main fractal algorithm used was Mandelbulb 3D his assets contributed to both space phenomena as well as architectural details though Hal Tenny makes it clear that his assets were further conceptualized by the artists working on the VFX.
