Allegorithmic have released the latest version of Bitmap2Material, a substance for transforming bitmap textures into seamless materials. New features include:
- Completely rewritten algorithms to extract information from source images and generate quality seamless normal, ambient occlusion and albedo (base color) maps
- New lighting cancellation methods can get rid of most lighting and output clean, neutral diffuse textures
- Includes all physically-based rendering channels, based on accurate conversion algorithms

Seems to do some light cancellation similar to Lightbrush although it does it a bit different. Just from this video it seems Lightbrush is able to extrude pure color better and get rid of pretty much all shadows but it doesn’t have the control Bitmap2Material 3 seems to have. Looks really interesting though.
I agree that lightbrush seemed better for that particular application but the company and product no longer exist, and when they did it cost $2500!
is this a paid upgrade? does not show up in my download area.
