Blackmagic Design announced that the final release of Fusion 8.2 is now available. The latest version of the VFX and motion graphics software is out of public beta and available as a native application for the Linux platform (as well as Windows and OS X), both in its free and Studio versions. Studios can run Fusion projects and workflows in mixed OS environments and integrate Fusion in existing studio pipelines using Python and Lua scripting. In addition, Fusion projects can be moved between the Mac, Windows and Linux versions so artists can work on the platform of their choice. Fusion 8.2 Studio provides additional features for $995, including unlimited free render nodes and other multi-user features.
Blackmagic Design has also released DaVinci Resolve 12.5.2. The latest update to the editing and color correction software brings support for additional URSA Mini camera metadata, Fusion Connect on Linux, additional filtering options and various other improvements. The update is now available for download free of charge for all current DaVinci Resolve customers.
Blackmagic Design offers the Studio version of its software through permanent licensing. There are no ongoing subscription, cloud licensing, maintenance fees or additional render node costs.
Also of note, Blackmagic Design announced that the company keeps expanding through the acquisition of Ultimatte, the company that develops the realtime blue and green screen removal technology for the broadcast television, commercial and feature film industries, as well as through the acquisition of Fairlight, a provider of digital audio products for live broadcast event production, and film and television post production, as well as immersive 3D audio mixing and finishing.
