SideFX has released a tutorial and a free Houdini digital asset by Paul Ambrosiussen that converts any deforming mesh (with a fixed topology) into a bone based animation. Watch the video and download the tool from .

Recordings of 5 presentations from the recent Houdini Procedural in Motion event have been made available online. Topics included: Entagma explaining why VEX is the key to mastering Houdini's power; Helge Maus discussing proceduralism with a focus on particles, instancing and creating PBR materials and rendering with Mantra; Simon Holmedal demonstrating how he uses Houdini to create abstract effects; Jeff Wagner illustrating the use of common Houdini operators and scripting for procedural modelling, population, deformation and growth systems; Finally, a  panel discussion about the state of the advertising industry. Last week at GDC Andreas Glad held a presentation at SideFX's booth demonstrating in detail how DICE moved away from sprite based liquids to meshes generated in Houdini for Battlefield 1. Among other tips he demonstrates how they were able to keep it efficient without taking up too many resources on the current generation of consoles.
