Capturing Reality has released an update to RealityScan, its mobile photogrammetry application. Version 1.8 introduces three shooting modes designed to match different scanning conditions. AR Guidance displays a live point cloud over the subject with photo position feedback, Object Mode provides advanced camera controls with automatic background removal for scans of movable items, and Standard Mode offers similar controls without background removal for situations where the object and its surroundings need to be captured together.
The update includes new viewport controls through an interactive view cube that allows rotation from any angle and quick access to orthographic views. Mesh clean up options have been expanded through lasso and rectangle selection tools that can remove unwanted areas. Focus peaking has been added to show which parts of an image are in sharp focus.
A capture interval timer now supports automated shooting at set intervals for turntable or tripod-based scanning. Users can choose between generating a water-tight mesh for uses such as 3D printing or a non-water tight mesh to reduce potential artifacts. Continuous light mode allows the device’s light to remain on during scanning in low-light conditions.
