Reminds me the refractive materials in 3dstudio for DOS, from the 90’s… But, ooh: in real-time.
Thanks for this nostalgic feelings.
oh no ! Blender news and boom ! a 3ds max user comment ! Let the flames arise π
Flaming = Caring ? π
I think it was a sarcasm-joke imitating other people in Max threads π
Hahaha π good joke π
hahaha i agree! And obviously is not a joke.
By the way, “My nostalgic feelings” always are about the good times when CGpress was totally related and dedicated to Max (and partner softwares/plugins)
Only if Autodesk cared quite a bit more about their historic users… but they didn’t, times change π
MU! MU! MU!
Great to see someone still remembering Max Underground around here.
Yes, I miss it sometimes, too.
The MU Spirit is very much alive, though. The flame is still burning bright these days. That I can guarantee.
Cheers to all of you who visited MU and joined us through the years!
Hi Pablooooooooo! π
Agree, the spirit is the same, and I dare to say that even the visitors are the same, at least a big amount of us hahaha
Count me in! I’m one of the old timers here but I’m not really that old. I am still young and beautiful.
Β‘Hola Juan!
Great to see you around! Yes, I’ve seen plenty of people around who’ve been visiting the site since the MU days. Igor Posavec, Jon A. Bell, Rune Spaans, Eloi, Changsoo Eun, Robert Seidel, Stephen Green, Garry Clarke, MauricioPC, etc., etc. It’s great to see most everyone still here, with new people joining, too.
The spirit will be the same as long as there are a number of non-conformist artists questioning things. It’s great to see you’re still around lighting up some fires.
@Guest (The original) Ha ha! Speak your name then, so we can tell who you are.
@Max underground spirit Thank you for the great memories! I did indeed post a lot of news items! Ha ha! Neil Blevins (a.k.a. Soulburn) was posting back in 2001, too, and so was Laurent M. Abecassis. Scott Kirvan also, of course, as he was the founder of the site.
Cheers!
This is actually very sad – after 10 years you find us still here, but older, shabbier, worn out, not moved a single inch forward into new spheres of life, market and future.
(almost joking haha – nice to see you came back to our assisted living facility for old people!)
Great to hear from you Igor! It’s been a while.
Hope everything’s going well at 3d-io.
Older? Not at all. We just gained some experience.
Future projects can only get better. π

Maxunderground in two different eras.
So interesting to see new techniques and old tricks being combined. This type of material/shader building is informative for anyone working in cgi and game dev. Great tutorial.
