Chaos Confirms it is working on V-Ray for Blender
In yesterday’s Chaos Unboxed event , Chaos confirmed it is currently working on a V-Ray for Blender integration.
Although presented as a new product, Chaos has had an open source bridge to Blender for some time, but updates have been sporadic. It would appear this announcement marks a renewed effort to support this platform and the fruition of work that has been taking place over the last few years. Few details are available at this point, but in a 2022 24 hours of Chaos presentation, Vlado shared that they are changing the SDK to support better integration for Blender at app level (similar to how they support Cinema 4D) and supporting interactive rendering.
As mentioned, details on the release date and specific features of the V-Ray integration with Blender are yet to be announced, we’ll share more information when it becomes available. Find out more on the Chaos website.

In other words, don’t hold your breath!
I really hope this happens
Updates sporadic :D. Last update is 5 years ago.
Blender users are mostly empty pocket users, often teens, or students, or hobbyists, modelling freelancers and/or fanboys who will stick with Cycles anyway.
I don’t really see a market with good opportunities here to be frank…
As far as the percentage number is concerned, I agree with you: most Blender users have no/little money (which is no wonder given that the software is free). But the sheer size of the community still leaves a lot of potential customers. I think Chaos will have already assessed whether it’s worth it (or could be worth it).
The question I asked myself reading the news was whether Vray for Blender will justify the additional costs compared to Cycles (For example, through a substantially better workflow, better results). I switched from Vray/MAX to Blender and am very happy with Cycles. But that may be due to my 3D niche and may be different in other areas such as architecture or automotive…
There are several companies with Blender.
I can see a market for Architecture, etc Note that if well implemented will come with all Chaos good and convenient stuff.
But they would be not only competing with Cycles. Octane has a free(1 GPU) and payable plugin for Blender.
Could be good to see the source for that.
AFAIK at least in Spain several studios are using Blender in production, to name a few:
And there are more… so they don’t seem to me “empty pocket people”, in fact the seem to me “the industry” in spain if we speak about animation.
BTW not sure if you know Sony Animation or Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, where Blender was key to reach the look and feel of the movie, not empty pocket either…
Also some others in other industries want to use Blender, a good example is the ArchViz industry, where the main showstopper are Vray or Corona proper implementations, if Vray reaches Blender in good shape, things may change rapidly.
Yeah!
If the plugin fails to provide any significant differentiation, it will likely fade into chaos.
