Chaos has announced the end of perpetual licensing for its Anima PRO software. Effective immediately, the company will no longer sell individual models or licenses for Anima PRO, as it transitions to promoting the subscription-based Anima ALL.

According to Chaos, over the past three years, the adoption rate of Anima ALL has significantly surpassed that of Anima PRO, prompting Chaos to discontinue Anima PRO and focus solely on Anima ALL. Current users of Anima PRO will be able to purchase individual models until July 2025 through in-app purchases, after which this option will no longer be available.

Existing Anima PRO perpetual subscriptions will continue to function with currently supported operating systems and DCC versions. However, any future maintenance releases for Anima PRO will be based on its current codebase, without new capabilities or user interface updates that will be included in Anima ALL.

Chaos has also released Anima ALL 5.6, which does not require licenses for render nodes and allows unlimited installation on multiple machines. Sales of Anima ALL subscriptions are now exclusively available through the Chaos website and local resellers, with the AXYZ Design shop ceasing all sales.

What a bunch of marketing horse sh**. Welp, chaos is on its way out. Who would have thought that selling to an investment company has consequences. Can’t wait for more attractive licensing “options” in the future. Some brain dead bundles with things I don’t want would be nice, ideally as the only option to get floating. How convenient would that be!

It’s a bit of a bummer that everything has to come to an end. It seems like this trend is popping up everywhere, and marketers have really nailed how to keep users hooked on subscriptions. But hey, maybe there’s some hope on the horizon! The way Epic is handling their Unreal Engine pricing could be something the industry looks at down the line, maybe with more divisions.

The moment they prevent me from extending my perpetual license of Vray when the new scheduled version comes out is when I seriously consider no longer being their customer. There are enough options out there at this point.
They allowed old customers to upgrade to Vray 6, but new perpetual licenses are no longer being sold. I fear what they decide to do in the future. Phoenix is pretty much dead, there’s something horrible going on at Chaos.

Arnold teaming up with Autodesk iw what’s going on at Chaos. The merger gives Arnold the upper hand though I still use and love VRay I’d imagine some customers switched to Arnold.

Arnold is a superior renderer in many areas, from particles to volume rendering to hair and skin. Its only downside at the moment are the render element setup process or workflow which is a breeze in Vray and a few other workflow issues it has such as a dated and limited render viewer.

what a bloody rort
chaos are terrible
first they stopped development on vray GPU and phoenix and now they scam users on anima…which is a poor piece of software to begin with

chaos need to close down, since they got more investors its been extract extract extract while offering little improvement to core products

i hope they go broke

You don’t want to hope for that because there is no alternative to phoenix fd for max, and as messy their development has been lately, i much prefer to have more products somewhat competing than put all the eggs in one basket.
