John Martini has released a modifier pack that contains 3 plugins for creating linear, radial and grid clones. They work by copying an object with options to incrementally translate, rotate and scale. These settings can also be animated and multiple modifiers can be built-up in the stack for more complex results. The plugins are compatible with Max 2018 or later and cost $3. Nice!
Man you should be coding for Blender as the industry seems to be moving that way.
I’d be more than glad to. I just do not know what people would need in blender. I don’t use the application enough to know what people would like or what blender can already do. I’m open to requests 🙂
Blender lacks advanced scattering and smart assembly tools such as VRayScatter, RailClone or non-intersecting geometry painters. You could start from developing much simpler stuff though e.g. an add-on that could scatter objects along a curve/spline. You can already do that via a dedicated modifier but it deforms instances at the mesh level. Creating such arrays without deformations is a pain in the butt though.
